Exploring English Through Movies – How to Enhance Your Language Skills (B2+)

Movies provide an excellent and highly entertaining source of language training for English students of all ages and levels. They offer valuable exposure to the numerous sounds of English and different cultures as well as being a fabulous source of new and advanced vocabulary. When combining English audio with English subtitles, movies can be used to help you work on all language skills including listening and understanding, reading, spelling, and, of course, speaking.
In this course we will work with a selection of different movies in both British and American English, thus providing you with a wide range of accents, topics and cultural backgrounds. You will watch the movies at home (in ENGLISH and with ENGLISH subtitles; all films are available on DVD or streaming services of your choice), and we will discuss plot, story and characters in class and will practise vocabulary and pronunciation.
The films we’ll be discussing are:
20th October 2026 – “The King’s Speech” (2010), British historical drama film,
starring Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter, Geoffrey Rush et al.
15th December 2026 – “As Good As It Gets ” (1997), American comedy/drama film starring Jack Nicolson, Helen Hunt, Greg Kinnear et al.
16th February 2027 – “Four Weddings and a Funeral ” (1994), British romantic comedy, starring Hugh Grant, Andie MacDowell, Kristin Scott Thomas, Simon Callow, John Hannah, Rowan Atkinson et al.
