Join in this year’s celebration: A historic milestone, a quarter of a millennium since Jane Austen was born! Austen’s legacy is unrivalled; no other female author is more cherished and still celebrated today. In honour of Austen’s 250th birthday, this semester’s movie course will focus entirely on the BBC’s 1995 TV adaptation of “Pride & Prejudice” starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle.
In our three sessions we’ll be discussing and analysing the portrayal of life, culture and customs at the time, the role of love and relationships, and the capturing of Austen’s magnificent prose and witty dialogues in the mini-series. This course will help you improve your English vocabulary, listening comprehension, pronunciation and speaking skills.
We recommend to purchase one of the BBC’s editions on DVD or blue ray with English audio and English subtitles (“Pride and Prejudice”, 1995 BBC television mini-series, 6 eps., adapted by Andrew Davies from Jane Austen's 1813 novel, starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle).
Students attending the course should have at least a B2 level of English.
